Chocolate Peanut Butter Party Bites (aka Puppy Chow)

Many many years ago, my family and some family friends went down to Florida. We all stayed at a hotel with various types of rooms and the family friends had a room with a small kitchenette. One night, we all met up and hung out in the courtyard where there was a BBQ and tables.  The wife brought out something she called “Puppy Chow”. We hesitantly tasted it and we were hooked! Automatically addicted! Little bites of cereal covered with chocolate and peanut butter! Who could resist that? She invited us over to show us how she made it. I took notes and I love that I still remember this simple recipe!

Last weekend, the same party I brought the Vegan Banana Bread to, I brought these as well, for the non-vegans. I whipped up a batch, as it only takes, MAYBE 20 minutes total! I left the container there as everyone was eating it all night long. I got the bowl back the next day – EMPTY. Of course. It’s addictive stuff.

There were even couples that ran to their spouse to bring them some to try. They would put a few pieces in their mouth and then look around with big eyes as to say “WHAT are these?!?!” They are perfect for potlucks and children’s parties (if not peanut allergies exist). I once brought these to work for a Halloween party. I had turned the powdered sugar green with food colouring and called them Monster Bites.

Prep time: 5 minutes     Cook time: 5 -10 minutes     Cool time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

Box of Crispix

1 cup Peanut Butter

250-300g bag chocolate chips

6 tbsp butter

2-3 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

In a large vessel the closes, like a bowl with lid or extra large ziploc, empty the box of cereal and set aside.

In a medium pot, melt together peanut butter, chocolate chips and butter. Let cool 5 minutes.

Pour peanut butter-chocolate mixture onto the cereal and close the lid. Shake it all around so the chocolate covers the cereal.

Once all pieces are covered, put in two cups of powdered sugar and shake again letting each piece separate into single bite pieces.

Let cool and enjoy!
