What do you get when you mix a photo foodie scavenger hunt and fighting community hungry? The Ottawa Foodie Challenge! This delicious yearly event helps the Ottawa Food Bank while it’s challengers compete for a few pretty cool prizes.
All prizes are donated from local purveyors and this year was quite the set up! 2 sets of Wusthof knives (worth $700 each), cooking classes at La Bottega, Beyond the Pale beer, spices from Cardamom & Clove, Gift certificate for the Unrefined Olive, Gift certificate for the Ministry of Coffee and a gift basket with lots and lots of fun stuff!
The kick-off was held at Shopify in the market, who has taken over what is formerly Parliament. It’s a pretty neat space for a business. With a metal slide and all!
We were given a light breakfast provided by Lunch. Different kinds of pastries and fruit.
HOW IT WORKS:
Teams are made up of two people, in this case, me and my fabulous foodie friend Dan. Our team name was Fabulous Foodies!
We were given a La Bottega bag which contained a map of Ottawa, the list of clues to complete and a copy of Ottawa Magazine (and a chocolate bar which we didn’t find until waaaaay later).
This year there were 65 clues and 12 of them were mandatory. Each clue has points associated which range from 5-50 points. Whichever team has the most points at 4 pm, wins the main knife sets/cooking class prize.
The winners are determined by taking a photo of doing each clue and uploading it on Flickr.
Here are a few of our favourites! We strongly encourage you to sign up next year to support the Ottawa Food Bank and to have an awesome foodie day! See some new places and try some new things that you may never have been or tried!

Dan won a $50 gift card from Ministry of Coffee for the Detached animal head pic. Way to go! The photographer isn’t half bad either!
I wanted to re-iterate that this foodie challenge is for a great cause. I highly suggest signing up next year and join the fun while supporting the Ottawa Food Bank! They need it!
